Introduction
With larger area coverage and well-managed garden, the Central Department of Library and Information Science, TU is running its academic programs at Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur. Students enjoy the fresh environment and the professional career oriented applied social Science discipline in the department. It welcomes multi-disciplinary students every year.
The journey of Library and Information Science education from the Central Department of Library and Information Science began in 1995 (2052 BS). It was a significant step to foster library professionals in Nepal. The graduates from the departments are now at distinguished professional positions.
Moreover in the later phase of the department, the course content aims to encourage digital library knowledge and skills.
Along with the semester system, the present course is offering timely education and skills along with a month long internship and compulsory research thesis writing programs. The department has been enthusing students for hard work and encourages innovative research.
The Head of Department is Assistant Professor Nira Manandhar and other faculty members are Assistant Professor Lila Nyaichyai, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Parbati Pandey and Assistant Professor Sarita Gautam are the faculties.
History
The Central Department of Library and Information Science was established in 1995 (2052 BS) under the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. From the year of establishment, the department started teaching Post graduate bachelor degree courses for one year (B.Lib.Sc.). Such man-power became middle level professional human resources. In order to cope with the information explosion age, specialized professional human resources were the need of the time. In this regard, in 2002 (2059 BS) TU has decided to start the Master of Library and Information Science (MLISc). This was the landmark for the professional development of librarianship in Nepal. After completing 10 batches of yearly system, in 2014 (2071 BS), the semester system has been journeyed to the 7th batch.
The first Head of Department was Dr. Madhusudan Karki, along whom Professor Dr. Mohan Raj Pradhan, Associate Professor Rudra Dulal, Associate Professor Bhim Dhoj Shrestha, Late Assistant Professor Nirmala Shrestha, Late Assistant Professor Lila Dahal were the faculties of the department. Among them Ass. Prof. Bhim Dhoj Shrestha continues till the day and all others are newly appointed faculties in 2017 from the last three years. The Present Head of the Department is Assistant Professor Nira Manandhar. Assistant Professor Lila Nyaichya, Assistant Professor Parbati Pandey and Assistant Professor Sarita Gautam are the faculties of the department at present.
The graduates from the departments are now at distinguished professional positions. for instance, the deputy administrator of TU Bishnu Aryal, Chief Librarian of TUCL Indra Prasad Adhikari, Prakash Thapa, Gita Giri, Undersecretary Yadav Chandra Niraula, Undersecretary Upendra Prasad Mainali, Assistant Professor of Central Department of Nepali Department Ashok Thapa, Ph.D, Kamala Sharma, librarian of the Parliament library, Prem Adhikari, Anju Rajbansi, Anita Bhattarai, Sagar Subedi, Nima Dhital and many others are some of the names who achieved significant post in their professions.

From 2017 July, she is appointed by the TU as the Assistant Professor. She is teaching Library Management and Library Classification. By 2019, she is the Head of Department. She has completed her Masters’ in Library and Information Science from the CDLIS, TU in 2015.

From 2017 July, She is appointed by the TU as the Assistant Professor. She is teaching Data communication and Information Communication Technique. She, on the other hand, prepares students for report writing and research paper writing. She has completed her Ph.D. degree in International Relations. She is a dedicated and enthusiastic faculty member of the department.
